What is dry needling and what does it treat?

Dry needling physiotherapy is used as an effective solution in treating pain relief. The pain relief treated can be used for a variety of different problems such as joint pains, injuries, migraines, fatigue, stress, back and neck pain, as well as during pregnancy and post natal rehabilitations.

This treatment has been used for years and is a western treatment of acupuncture. During dry needling, very thin medical needles will be inserted under the skin to reach the muscles of your body for effective pain relief.

What happens during dry needling?

Myofascular trigger points are targetted during dry needling, to relieve pain or discomfort. It is known that sensitive nodes can be prevented from stretching correctly which can cause chronic pain. By inserting small medical needles into certain muscles, endorphins get released, which can help certain symptoms of pain.

Dry needling physiotherapy is often combined with other rehabilitation techniques, such as manual therapy, massage, physical exercise, stretching and strengthening.

Is dry needling painful?

Contrary to popular belief, dry needling physiotherapy is not painful. All of the specialists at Walking On Clouds are qualified in physiotherapy and osteopathy and are trained on a regular basis to make sure they are updated on new information. In addition, our specialists are careful and ensure that sterile, packaged, single medical needles only are used.

“Definitely the best in Hampstead! Gabriella is my go to, she has been so helpful in treating my sports/overuse injuries. I usually see her for a sports massage and dry needling. She’s so knowledgeable and friendly and easy to book with. She spends time assessing your needs and determining a treatment plan to get you back in action. Alex is amazing as well, I have seen him if Gabriella is unavailable and I’m desperate to get in. If you’re looking for very knowledge physios/massage therapists, I highly recommend, seriously the best!”
